I have worked for and with local authorities, their advisers and partners for over 20 years now, with experience from the front-line through to senior management, and in policy, service and organisational development
What Consultancy experience are you looking for?
My consultancy work draws on a wide range of past experience including:
- Leadership and management development Diagnostic work with senior teams leading to commissioning/tendering for delivery of a range of management development programmes including an award-winning Leadership Programme; evaluation, skills transfer and review
- Organisational values and culture Consultation with senior managers and political leaders as well as staff at all levels to inform a review of organisational values and introduction of a behaviour-based competency framework
- Merger, restructuring and change management. Strategic advice and practical support to director and senior management team following merger of two departments and subsequent restructuring; strategic service and business planning, cross-functional policy/service development and change management projects
- Organisational development consultancy Commissioning, project management and evaluation of team development programme for a newly-formed senior management team
- Multi-agency and partnership working Representation on numerous multi-agency bodies involving local and central government, police, health, voluntary and community organisations and faith groups. I am a patient advisor to the British Medical Association (BMA) and sit on their Patient Liaison Group and Committee on Community Care
- Policy/planning and strategy Leading a multi-disciplinary team of 20 staff for a number of years responsible for all aspects of policy, planning, research, communications, service user involvement, complaints and member enquiries
- Writing for work Extensive experience of detailed technical reports, high level strategy documents and plans, summaries, policy and procedure documents, research findings, funding bids and magazine articles, publicity materials, consultation documents using Plain English
What I can offer you:
I am available for a range of consultancy assignments such as
- Reviews and evaluations of projects, programmes or services
- Research projects looking at policy, good practice, staff, service user and stakeholder feedback
- Diagnostic and development for service and staff development programmes
- Critique of draft reports/documents (proof-reading or copy-editing) with recommendations regarding clarity, brevity, tone, style and use of Plain English;
- Production of polished documents from rough drafts or background notes
Qualifications, training and experience
- Various short courses in consultancy skills, project management, change management, leadership and management, business planning, partnership working, equalities and diversity
- Completion of the first module of the Diploma in Consultancy Practice run by the Civil Service College
- Degree in Modern Languages; translator and teacher of English as a foreign language; a thorough grounding in English grammar, syntax and writing styles.
